Making a Sprinkle Cookie
Welcome to the next exciting art project on our website. In this activity, we'll be using brown construction paper, wiggly outlines, and a variety of embellishments to create whimsical cookie artwork. Get ready to sprinkle your creativity and bring your unique cookie visions to life!
The Project
Materials Needed:
- Brown construction paper with circular cookie outline
- Scissors
- Large sequins
- Small pieces of pipe cleaners, buttons, and other embellishments
- Three pie trays (for organizing embellishments)
- Glue bottle for each student
Parent Prep Before the Project: About 15 Min
- Begin by searching the scrap bin for brown construction paper large enough to draw the circle onto. If you use a full size sheet you should get about 6-8 of these circles. These will serve as the canvas for your cookie creations.
- Use a black sharpie to trace a circle shape.
- Cut the pipe cleaners into small pieces, ranging from 1/2" to 1" in length. These will be used as decorative elements for your cookie.
Project Steps:
- Read "MMMmmmm Cookies": Have a parent read the book "MMMmmmm Cookies" by Robert Munsch or watching the video link at the top of this page.
- Demonstrate the Cookie Creation: As a fun start, demonstrate the entire project while the students are still sitting at the carpet. Show the students how to cut out the wiggly cookie shape from the construction paper. Then, show how to use the glue bottle to attach the "sprinkles" onto the cookie. It's important to emphasize the phrase "dot dot not a lot" while applying the glue.
- Send the Students to their Tables : Each table should have its own pie tray with the various embellishments, such as sequins, small pieces of pipe cleaners, buttons, and other decorative items, into separate pie trays. Each student should have their own glue bottle, cookie cut out and pair of scissors.
- Create Your Cookie Masterpiece:
- Have the Students write their name on the back of the construction paper.
- The students will start by cutting along the black sharpie line.
- After the cookie is cut out have the students place 10-15 dots of glue on their cookie.
- Finally, the students can select sequins, buttons, and pipe cleaner pieces to place on the glue dots.
