Art showcase at Open House
At Oak Ridge Elementary we have an Art Showcase in May on the same night as Open House. Every student at Oak Ridge will have a piece of art displayed in our Media Center. The parents and family members are encouraged to come and view the art. Parents and family members are given the opportunity to donate money to the art program and win an art supply basket. This is a fabulous night to see what all the classes and grade levels have been creating all year!
The art prep coordinator is responsible to:
* Save student artwork throughout the year (we suggest having at least three of the projects to choose from) for our annual Art Showcase during Open House.
* Make sure each student at Oak Ridge has an art project displayed, even if they join the class late in the year. You may have to make up a project with a student who was absent or was a late-add to your class, or you can choose to display a couple different projects so all students are represented.
* Ask your child's teacher if she has a particular project they wish to have displayed, and, if not, the choice is yours. You can display the same project for all the students OR create a collage of different projects. Choosing to display multiple projects means you can select the best option for each student.
* Mount the chosen artwork (on black or other appropriately colored construction paper), and affix supplied labels according to your class roster. Labels will be provided about a week or two before Open House that include each student's name, the teacher's name, and a line on which to write the art project displayed.
* Find your class's assigned space in the media center and hang the works of art within that space. You will use a stapler to staple the works directly to the wall for most artworks (if you are displaying a work on something other than paper, you may need to use pins, tacks, or some other method to hand the work, as appropriate). You will be advised when the artwork can be hung and removed.
* Coordinate with your volunteers to assist in this, if desired.
* Remove all artwork according to the schedule provided and return it to the teacher directly so it can be sent home.
